At Red Oak, sustainability is an important principle that will shape how we work and grow.Â
As a consultancy, we recognise that our Scope 1 and 2 emissions are small, but we can still influence others in the products we buy and the way we travel for work.Â
We can take meaningful action to address climate change. We’re actively developing our Carbon Reduction Plan, setting ambitious targets, and putting in place concrete measures to ensure we contribute to a Net Zero future.
Our Progress So Far
While our reduction plan and specific targets are under development, we’ve already taken significant steps:
- Committed to Net Zero before 2050 at board level.
- Calculated our carbon footprint.
- Created a Carbon reduction Plan.
- Replaced the company car with a hybrid model.
- Embedded sustainability into our new Procurement Policy (Jan 2025).
- Chosen an office space committed to renewable energy.
- Achieved ISO14001 certification and implemented robust environmental management procedures.
The Road Ahead
We are committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and are setting ambitious targets for 2030, because, quite frankly, 2050 is too late. Based on our first high level plans, we project a carbon emissions reduction of 70% by 2030 (on an FTE basis).
We’ve got lots of ideas of ways to show our commitment to these goals and are looking into different certifications and business incentives and changes, including:
- Encouraging sustainable staff travel with policies promoting public transport, car-sharing, and electric vehicles.
- Offering Carbon Literacy training for all employees to involve them in our reduction efforts.
- Transitioning the company car to a fully electric model and supporting staff in adopting EVs through a salary sacrifice scheme.
- Allowing additional travel days for employees choosing lower-carbon options like trains for international conferences or holidays.
We are committed to working alongside our stakeholders to not only reduce our own emissions but also inspire positive change throughout our industry and community.
